Spokane adopts license-funded voucher program

Spokane, WA pet guardians pay a surcharge of $3 per dog license which goes into a fund from which spay/neuter vouchers are issued back to the guardians of licensed pets. The vouchers are dollars-off coupons good at every veterinary clinic in the area. The program was started in 1996 by SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. and was adopted by Spokane County in 2002. Beginning in 2001, SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. started to see a leveling off in the number of animals coming into their shelter. For information, contact Executive Director Gail B.
